The  Importance of Water for Good Health

In this article, David Wolfe shares on the importance of water. David Wolfe is the author of the new book Amazing Grace and Eating for Beauty and many others.

Kevin: Well, David, I want to welcome you to this call. I’m excited to talk about what we’re going to talk about today.

David: Thanks so much Kevin. It’s going to be great. I think the subject matter at hand is probably the most critical of any health information out there.

Kevin: I’m excited about that. For those people who don’t know who you are, why don’t we just start and tell a little bit about how you got to where you are now and then we’ll get into talking about water which is the subject of this conversation.

David: Well, a little bit of background. I was born originally on the East coast in New Jersey. Both my parents are medical doctors. I grew up inside the standard medical environment, mostly in my dad’s office actually. I’ve seen that from the inside out that when I was a very young kid, maybe seven years old, we went to California, it was the first time I ate fruit off a tree. I think I became kind of a nature boy from that point on. Eventually when I got out of college I was looking for something to do and I had been doing raw food and developing kind of a diet program as a hobby on the side. Then gradually that became more and more of what I was doing as a career. I stepped out of the legal profession which is where I was headed and the engineering profession, which I was also headed in that direction too and actually into paten law which combines law and engineering. I got into nutrition fulltime and I’ve been doing that for about 14 or 15 years.

Kevin: That’s great. Tonight we want to talk about water and there are so many places to start. Why don’t we just start with the basis of why nutritionally we need water?

David: Water is the basis of all life. Ultimately there is no fire inside any living organism anywhere so if we look at what is going on in each cell we really see that each cell is a water bag. If we look at every cell in our body, in every plant, in every single living thing, it’s just little water bags of little nutrients. Water is a primary substance of all life. We’ve hear he word hydration before. We know that hydration is critical to being healthy. We found out through Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book, Your Body’s Many Cries for Water, that most people’s hunger pains are actually just thirst pains and if we can get each one of those little water bag hydrated then we’re going to feel a whole lot better and we’re going to detoxify a whole lot faster.

Kevin: What is the ideal level of hydration? I’ve heard so many different numbers, 90%, 60%, anywhere between there. What do you think is the ideal level?

David: You hear these numbers thrown around. The human body is 60% water, the human body is 80% water, the human brain is 93% water. I don’t know how much any of that is true. We’re basically water, secondarily fats and oil and it’s probably an 80/20 thing. We’re mostly water. 80% to 20% are fats and oils, proteins and other things on down the line but the key thing is how you’re feeling about your own hydration. I really feel like I have done too much water at times. Literally drank myself until I was dehydrated and I’ve drank too little water as most of us have done. We’ve got to know the balance in between and that’s something that we’re going to work on here in this recording.

Kevin: Great, maybe this kind of leads into the next question, what is the goal when it comes to water? What are we looking for in terms of the benefits of health with water? It’s more than just hydration, right?

David: That’s right. In a world today with plastic bottles and all kinds of plastic everything, we’ve got to be aware that there are binders in plastic that are toxic to the human organism that actually are implicated in cancer, especially breast cancer and can interfere with hormone or hormone disrupters and therefore probably as a good beginning as we want to either get on to well water and then filter it down right in our own home, right in the line where it’s coming in or if we’re on municipal water, we want to take that water and do the best we can to purify it so that it doesn’t carry any contaminates in it and its either renewed or we get water delivered to us in glass, if possible or non-out gassing plastics. These are options.. Having said all that, part of the way to actually make that water hydrate you is to realize that we’re not really spring water on the inside.. Like the water bags which we call ourselves consists of water and salt. Therefore, we’re more like an ocean on the inside and we may want to consider adding a pinch or two per gallon, maybe even more of sea salt to drinking water in order to maintain balance hydration.

Kevin: Now, I’ve heard that the mineral composition in our blood is very similar to ocean water. Is that true or is it chlorophyll?

David: That’s what I’ve heard and here’s how it relates. Ocean water is, from a mineral prospective, identical to chlorophyll which is identical to hemoglobin or our blood. So those three substances chlorophyll our blood and ocean water are identical with one exception and that is in ocean water the amount of sodium is drastically higher. In chlorophyll the amount of magnesium is drastically higher and in human blood the amount of iron is drastically higher. Other than that, all the other mineral ratios should be about the same.

Kevin: That’s pretty incredible that there are similarities across the board.

David: I find it fascinating. When I look at the herbs, I look at the herbs as a giant water bag. It’s like a giant cell and that cell is mostly salty because most of the oceans are filled with salt. Therefore, when we look at our own organism we have to consider that we salty ocean on the inside and therefore some salt with our water may be what’s required in order to keep us hydrated.

Kevin: Salt in water can also help with regular bowl function, correct?

David: That’s right. Dr. Norman Walker and Dr. Bernard Jensen, both of them spent about 60 to 65 years on that particular subject. That is determining exactly what kinds of minerals are used in the digestive process and keeps our digestive organs healthy, meaning our stomach, small intestine and large intestine or colon and what they found out is that the small intestine and the large intestine require mineral salt in order to retain moisture in those environments to stop constipation and to allow bowel movements to occur regularly and for detoxification to happen smoothly.

Kevin: With the minerals in water and there are so many different types of water: distilled, spring, all these different types, it sometimes gets so confusing. What are some of the minerals besides salt that we’re looking for to get a full spectrum water?

David: That’s a rare and great question. One of the minerals of course is silica. Silica is what gives water kind of a creamy smoothness. You’ll see silica in spring waters in the way that the water kind of enrolls on itself and when it becomes very hyper organized and really just gets that almost mystical appearance especially when its very cold, when you actually tap that kind of water you discover that its silica content is high and if you want to know more about silica well you can just study crystals because crystals are made of silica.

Kevin: What are some of the nutritional benefits of silica?

David: Silica is extremely important for bone growth. We know that when we’re young we have a high silica content of our body and tissues. When we’re old, we have a low silica content. We know that silica nutrition is important for anti aging. In addition to that, silica wraps itself around or actually contains other minerals and those minerals are what we call high energy partials that are also found in water. Those are the minerals that respond to our consciousness. What that means is that we know that if we bless water it improves the water. We know that if we put intention into our water that it changes the structure of the water.. We know this from Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work and much metaphysical work before. There’s something in the water that’s responding and it appears to be high energy particles that are held into the water by silica. That’s where we are with the signs from all this and these high energy particles are often and mostly misidentified where mainstream science is right now, but not where cutting edge time.

Kevin: Really and what is that being identified as?

David: Well, mostly these high energy particles resist the cut burn poison chemical theory of science. That’s how we test for everything, we cut it, we burn it, we poison it and then we analyze it and that theory causes certain types of matter to be left out of the equations. For example, if you put certain types of high energy particles through that theory, what you’ll end up out on the other side is what is called carbon so it will be misidentified as carbon when in fact it was never carbon. It just appears to be carbon because it’s black to spectrum emission and absorption so it appears to be black like charcoal but in fact is not actually carbon. That’s probably the best way to describe it. These minerals can also be misunderstood or misidentified as iron, aluminum and in fact silica as well.

Kevin: So the water actually can be living?

David: Well, water is a living thing. That’s what makes the whole earth alive. Every single organism exists, in my perception, as a vehicle for the ennoblement of water into consciousness.

Kevin: Say that again.

David: Every organism exists as a vehicle for the ennoblement of water into consciousness. Let’s say you go and you drink water from the spring. You brought that water into your organism. If in fact your body is a wholly temple, then what you’ve done is you’ve brought the water in and nobled that water and made it part of your consciousness. That to me is really the fundamental understanding about water that changes it from something about; I’ve just got to drink this to be hydrated into more of the spiritual side of what water is about and what our role here is on the planet as storers of water instead of just drinkers of water.

Humans suffer from a myriad of health problems, the frequency of which increases as we age. We tend to say, "It’s just a part of getting older," and medicate the symptoms. However, it is now becoming increasingly evident that the key to our health lies in what we are eating and that the path to better health and longer life lies in eating living foods.

You may have heard the terms "live food", "living food", or "raw food". The question is, do you know what they mean? Eating all raw food is exactly as it sounds – it is eating food that has not been heated or altered in any way. This way of eating is not a diet, not a temporary means of accomplishing a specific goal such as weight loss. This way of eating is a lifestyle and it is a lifestyle that is gaining momentum and scientific support all over the world.

Why living foods? Think about it this way. Why do we eat? If you answered to feed your body, you are right. We eat to nourish the cells in our bodies so that they can perform the functions needed to keep our bodies alive. These cells are living things and we need to feed living things with living food. However, when we cook food, we kill it. The heating process of cooking chemically alters the food and destroys the enzymes needed by our bodies to aid in the digestion of the food. How can our cells live off of this?

When the enzymes in our food are destroyed, our bodies must compensate by using its own enzymes to help in the digestion process, taking up energy and vital resources that are needed elsewhere. The concentration of enzymes in an elderly person’s body is approximately 30% less than that of a young adult. This means, we are depleting our resources. The body has a more difficult time handling the cooked food and the digestion process slows down. What should ideally take 4 hours, can take up to 4 days. When our bodies are working so hard to constantly process and rid itself of the cooked food, it has fewer resources and less energy to focus on ridding the body of other foreign material such as the viruses and bacteria that make us sick.

When we cook food we also kill the vitamins and alter the minerals that our bodies need to function properly. While it is easy to think that you might feel hungry eating only living food, once you begin the cleansing process within your body, it will be better able to absorb the readily available nutrients from the raw food. Also, because living food is so nutritionally dense, we need to eat far less of it to get the same nutritional value that we get from cooked food. Eating living foods leaves a person feeling more satisfied and far more energetic.

No other animal on earth cooks its food. This is really a profound concept. There is no other animal, no other creature on earth that is as ill, out of shape, and overweight as humans are. Even the ones who live in the city environment, breathes the same polluted air as we do, and suffers the stresses created by humans do not suffer ill health the way humans do. Humans tend to want to improve upon nature, but nature was doing a fine job long before humans entered the scene. When eating all living foods, it is like saying, "I trust that nature has provided what my body needs in its entirety." In other words, nature knows what it is doing.

What about cravings? Many people believe we have cravings because there is something in the food our bodies are lacking. While this is true some of the time, much of our cravings for cooked foods comes from the fact that cooked foods are an addiction. Many people are physically and psychologically addicted to it and, as with any other addiction, it is hard to quit. There are many resources available that can help you get through the cravings and withdrawal from cooked food. A primary resource is Victoria Boutenko’s 12 Steps to Raw Foods. And if you think you’ll have to give up chocolate when eating living foods, you will be pleasantly surprised. Raw chocolate is not only delicious, it’s healthy too.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that eating raw food diet, which will detoxify and purify the system, can eradicate many diseases, cure obesity, slow the aging process, and extend the lifespan of humans. Two wonderful resources on the living food diet are David Wolfe’s books The Sunfood Diet Success System and Eating for Beauty. You may be sitting there saying, "But I have eaten cooked food all of my life and I’m perfectly healthy." The question you need to ask yourself is, "What am I comparing my level of health to?" After all, nearly everyone around you eats cooked food too and just because something is the norm, that doesn’t mean it is healthy.

Working with the sunfood organization they have been responsible in developing, marketing and distributing some of the world’s most incredible and exotic organic food items. So with that background on David Wolfe let us now talk about his debunking of calcium. David Wolfe says that calcium does not build bones. When people do not have much bone density people think that they don’t have calcium but this is not true. In fact even if we eat for example oyster shell calcium, we will only take in at best 1 or 2% of increase in our bone density. And we all know that 1 or 2 % is not enough.

For David Wolfe, what increase bone density is by taking in silicon and magnesium. The best source for magnesium would be cacao. Yes, cacao or raw chocolate. Chocolate is even good for your teeth because it kills the organism Streptococcus that cause cavities. It is sugar that is bad for our teeth not chocolate.Then the best source for silicon would be cucumber skin, bell peppers skin and skin of tomatoes. Silicon can also be found in certain special herbs like horse tail, nettle, alfalfa and oat straw.

So if you want to have bone density. Stop taking calcium. Start taking in magnesium and silicon. Hope this new information has helped you change your outlook in foods because there is till more new updates on science, food and nutrition that still needs to be discovered.

David Wolfe On Future Plans, Sungazing, And Elements For Life

Lenette: So what does the rest of 2009 hold for David Wolfe, personally or professionally?

David: Oh, it’s going to be a big year. It’s going to be a big year. I start out in South Florida on April 6th and I’m going to be on the road…this is after I come back from Peru, so the whole month of March I’ll be in Peru. April 6th I’ll be in South Florida and I’ll come up the entire East Coast of the United States, fly over to Los Angeles, go up the entire West Coast of the United States, come back down again and do a couple of jaunts around…I might even make it to Salt Lake City and possibly even Chicago by the summer?

Lenette: Possibly?

David: Yeah, I know. I’d like to get there sooner but it’s just a busy schedule. But we’re looking at, already, 100 events booked for the whole year, but it could potentially go to like 150 or even 200 events this year. It’s possible.

Lenette: And these events are all in the name of the book, like a book tour or what else are these events going to be about?

David: They’re pretty much about everything. It’s about "Save your town now!" [laughing] When we used to drive around in our bus, we would have these conversations at the end of the event and it was like, "What are we doing here?" We’re in this little town, wherever it was, some place in Kansas and basically we’re having a town hall meeting on how to save yourself and save your town. That’s the fundamental message. That’s pretty much what we’re talking about. What is the technology that’s out there that you can access immediately to save yourself and save your town? Superfoods and raw foods is one of the easiest buttons to push to get there.

Lenette: What percentage of your diet is comprised of superfoods now?

David: It’s probably 75%.

Lenette: Is there a ceiling limit that you would recommend for people?

David: That would be completely absurd for me to try to even guess. I don’t know. This is what I believe that everyone should explore. That is, raw foods, all of them, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, seaweed, sprouts, grasses, herbs and superfoods and, of course, fermented foods…explore all of that in-depth. Do the 60-day juice fast. Do the water fast. Do the things you need to do including eating copious amounts of vegetables on these giant salads. And you’re going, "How come I’m not full? I’m eating massive amounts of vegetables and all this food but I’m still not full." Go through all of that process and start to refine your diet down by volume by increasing the amount of superfoods that are in your diet from, say, one superfood smoothie a day to two and then eventually to three. When I first did that I actually did the three-month liquid blended fast on just cacao drinks and that was totally, totally amazing. That was years ago. I had already been a raw foodist for ten years at that point maybe.

Lenette: That’s awesome. It just puts some new ideas in my head. I always like trying out new things with the diet.

Lenette: Thank you so much, David. This has been awesome. Is there anything else you want to share with us?

David: I just hope that everybody out there is having the best day ever. I wanted to share a little bit about sungazing because this has been in the field now for quite some time, probably eight to ten years in the raw food world. I’ve been doing something up here at my house that I haven’t been able to do. I wasn’t able to really calibrate it very well. I’ve been sungazing outside on the snow barefoot and I have been calibrating what that’s all about and what the effectiveness of it is. It’s pretty darn powerful, I have to say. Sungazing barefoot on the snow at the end of the day. It’s something to do with this idea that if you’re out on wet grass and you’re sungazing, the energy that comes in through your eyes is pulled right through you through the wet of the grass and it goes right back into the Earth. I always wanted to sungaze on a dry surface like stone, and when I sungaze on snow, once I melt into the snow and I’m totally solid on my feet, then there’s a similar effect to being on stone. That’s something I’ve been playing around with and it’s really been interesting. I’ve been trying to calibrate what the limits of sungazing are and apparently in any condition, even in the snow, it’s totally perfect.

Lenette: Yeah, I gotta find a way [to do this in Chicago]. Maybe I could get on my roof. I just want to say I’m really grateful to be on the same team that you’re on and all the joys. I usually like telling people I’m working on a national project with David Wolfe and that seems like the most fun way to say it. I don’t think I would have gotten this opportunity if it hadn’t been for being in Elements for Life. I can’t say that if this opportunity is calling you that you will get a chance to talk to David Wolfe one-on-one but if you work this business hard and hold it in your vision to hang out with David Wolfe and hang out with all the Elements for Life leaders and go to retreats with us, that could happen. That possibility is there. David, I remember you saying so many people have asked you, "How can I work for you? How can I work with you?" and you’ve had to turn everyone down saying, "There’s only so many people I can hire, guys!" and this is the only channel now for anybody to work alongside you and to meet you.

David: It’s such a gift. You know, I’ve been involved in Elements for Life for five or six years. It’s been a long time. Finally, it’s got a whole thing going. It’s got a lot of traction, a lot of momentum and it solves that issue at every event that I do where there are people in the audience where they go, "This whole angle of nutrition makes sense to me. This is what I want to do for my career. I want to turn all my people onto it." Elements for Life is that opportunity that delivers those people to what their goal is. It’s totally amazing to have that in the cornucopia of what is being offered every night at an event. A lot of times five or more people come to me and say, "How do I get these things to my massage therapist friends? How do I get this to my chiropractor friends? I want to get in this as a business." Author and Nutritionist David Wolfe Discusses Nutritional Myths

Kevin: Let’s take another turn here and let’s talk a little bit about some of the common things that people are experiencing nowadays and maybe if you can just give some suggestions on what they can do to help them out. I know that, to start, we’ll start with osteoporosis. A lot of women are concerned about osteoporosis and they’re concerned about calcium and taking these calcium pills. You know, what are some of the pros and cons of that?

David: Okay, well the nations that consume the most calcium, the United States, Canada and the Scandinavian countries, have the worse osteoporosis and that’s because our theory of mineralization or our theory of nutrition is incorrect. The general theory is that a hundred years ago they started looking at people’s bones. They found out that, oh my god; these bones are made out of calcium. When people don’t have enough bone density the thought is, oh they just have to eat more calcium because that’s what builds bones. Calcium does not build bones and that is one of the biggest misconceptions ever and it actually goes to the real core of our problems with science. And that is the human body is a complex biological machine of an unbelievable of mystery. And there is strong evidence that indicates that if you eat some of the calcium, let’s say it’s calcium from coral calcium, for example, oyster shell calcium. That it is almost impossible to get that stuff into your bones to increase bone density. The amount of increasing bone density, at best, is 1 or 2%. It is not good enough.

What increases bone density? Well, it turns out it’s two other minerals and that is silicon and magnesium. Now, the best natural source of magnesium is cacao and cacao is known to be good for your teeth. In fact, there are chemicals in cacao that kill the organism Streptococci mutans that cause cavities. And, in fact, those extracts of the chocolate are now going to be showing up in toothpaste all over the world.

Kevin: No kidding?

David: That’s amazing. That to me is just such a dramatic irony.

Kevin: Wow.

David Wolfe: All along chocolate has been good for your teeth. It’s the sugar that’s been bad but even then, even then, studies have been done on people who eat chocolate even with the sugar and it’s been found with a study done in Scandinavia on this. It’s been found that even then that people who eat chocolate have been teeth health than people who don’t. To me that’s amazing. But let’s get on to silicon because this is the mineral that is difficult to get in today’s diet. What is silicon? It’s a mineral. You get it in the skin of cucumbers. It’s in the skin of bell peppers. It’s the skin of tomatoes. It’s in certain special herbs, which I’m going to name and you can drink this as a tea or take it in supplemental form and you will notice that it helps with your bone density.

And here are the herbs. One of them is called horse tail, horse tail and it’s not a horse’s tail. It’s actually an herb. Another one is nettle. Stinging nettles have been eaten by the druids in the U.K. for thousands of years and it’s one of the most important foods to eat if you know how to do it or if you juice it or you can just dry it and make a tea out of it, which is what I’m recommending; horse tail, nettle, oat straw. The oat seed of the oat grass has a little straw around it. It has a little coating. It’s the seed capsule. That oat straw is one of the richest sources of silicon. You can buy it in health food stores. You can get in as extracts in health food stores.

You can get it raw and make your own tea out of it. You combine those three together and you want you can add alfalfa, which is also a great source of silicon. You can either make a tea out of that or you can just eat those any way you can find them. And you will find if you do three strong teas
of that per day you will start increasing your bone density but how? It’s the silicon. Now, how does silicon increase calcium? I mean that doesn’t make sense. It’s because our theory of minerals is incorrect. Our atomic theory is incorrect. And that is if you eat silicon rich food your body, through the power of enzymes transmutates it into calcium, turns the silicon into calcium. That was discovered by a great French researcher by the name of Louis Curvan, a Nobel prize nominee, who wrote five books and 5,000 pages of research on just this particular subject; how silicon and calcium are related to each other.

It was very well honored in France and he is very intimately entwined in the science of what’s going on in France; but because of the language barrier his research really never made it to the English-speaking nations.

Kevin: Interesting when we’re still taking calcium pills from, you know, sea shells and everything.

David: I recommend to god, you know, this is so engrained in our minds about calcium that if you are confused about this, get on the Internet and research exactly whose getting the results of remineralizing their bones and you’ll find it’s people who are not taking these forms of calcium that are toxic, which is the oyster shell calcium and to some degree even coral calcium.

Kevin: Now, bones are alkaline and doesn’t the acidity of meats and sugars – does that eat away at the bone? I mean has that been proven or is that just a theory that I think I have, you know?

David: Well, that’s a great question and that’s the other side of the equation about osteoporosis. One is we’ve got to make sure we get the right nutrition to build strong bones. The other side of the equation is we’ve got to make sure we are doing things that aren’t hurting our bones. Eating lots of sugar is one of the worse things we can do to our overall health of our teeth, which are living bones and to the density of our bones because when we take in lots of sugar our body has to use calcium, it has to pull calcium out of the bones to buffer or neutralize the intense acidity of the sugar. Calcium is highly alkaline, as you stated. Our bones are alkaline and, therefore, alkaline minerals are used whenever we’re exposed to real strong acids. Sugar is a very strong acid. I mean, you know, we used to dissolve the corrosion on our battery terminals of our bus by dumping soda pop onto it because that sugar just dissolves and the phosphoric acid just dissolves all the corrosion right on the battery terminal. I mean you don’t’ want to be putting that in your body. That’s dangerous.

Kevin: Let’s get into supplements little bit. And you walk into a health food store and there are literally thousands of them. How do you get through them to find the ones that help with weight loss, and longevity, is really what I think the fountain of youth is all about? Which ones of those are the best? I mean rhodiola, turmeric, cinnamon. I mean which ones are the ones that people should be focusing on, not necessarily take but should be focusing on?

David: That’s such an excellent question. My job is to basically guide people into health food stores and create order out of chaos. There are so many things. Okay, well the most important thing, in my opinion, that you can buy in a health food store in that department is going to be vitamin C.

Kevin: Okay. In what form?

David: Well, there’s different forms. Now, I recommend that you start experimenting, moving away from synthetic forms of vitamin C or ascorbic acid, which is still beneficial, still good for you, and moving towards powdered, really high vitamin C plants. For example, you can get acerola cherry. It’s a tropical berry that is really high in vitamin C. It’s like 1 or 2% vitamin C and basically what they do is they grow these berries. They dry them and they powder them down and the encapsulate them or put them in a glass jar and sell them in health food stores as vitamin C. Now, that’s a real great way to get lots of vitamin C natural with all the cofactors. Vitamin C needs cofactors like rutin and bioflavonoids that are all naturally present in those powders, like acerola cherry. You can either take it supplementally as capsules or you add it onto your smoothies. You can literally put it in your water that you drink in your morning and it kind of sweetens the water. It sweetens the water but doesn’t sugarize the water.

Kevin: Gotcha.

David: Vitamin C is sweet but not sugary. So it makes your morning water easier to drink. So that’s one thing, vitamin C. The next thing is, what I believe to be, the greatest discovery in the last — probably in the last hundred years in the field of nutrition other than vitamin C and enzymes and that is sulfur, MSM, Methylsulfonylmethane. MSM is a biologically available form of sulfur that’s naturally found in wild food, untended food. We don’t really have access to that hardly at all any more. I mean, almost all our food is grown on farms for us. It’s not being watered naturally by the rain. I’m talking about the natural sulfur that’s produced in the oceans that helps create clouds, then drops them on the land that we need nutritionally in order to produce flexible collagen. Now that in the world does that mean? It means that sulfur produces flexible skin and flexible muscle tissue. It stops, in essence, wrinkling and increases the juiciness of the collagen and the discs, the joints that basically separate our bones from each other. On top of all that, it increases the growth of our hair, our nails, so that we have thicker, richer growth of our hair and nails. This can all be easily experienced within two weeks of taking MSM.

Kevin: It’s going to grow like weeds.

David: It’s really incredible and people who want thick quick growth of their hair and nails are almost always completely shocked by how powerful MSM can be. You can get it in capsule form. You can get it in a powder form. It’s available in every single health food store now. Once you start
looking into it, and especially when you take it, here’s what you’re going to find out. You’re going to find it’s one of the most important things you’ve ever taken. I have randomly polled hundreds of people about MSM. I almost always to a T here from people who have taken it before. Oh, MSM changed my life. I’ve heard that dozens of times, that exact quote. Echinacea increases the non specific activities of the immune system which means that it stimulates the overall activity of the cells that are responsible for fighting all kinds of infections. Echinacea makes our own immune cells more active in attacking bacteria, viruses and abnormal cells including cancer cells.

Third on David Wolfe suggested herbs to have is the lomatium herb. Lomatium herb is native to North America and is used medicinally for infections. The herb has been used by many tribes of Native America to treat infections particularly those that affect the lungs. It was particularly used in the southwestern United States during the influenza pandemic of 1917 with reportedly good results. Lomatium herb also has antiviral effect and anti-bacterial remedy.

david Humans suffer from a myriad of health problems, the frequency of which increases as we age. We tend to say, "It’s just a part of getting older," and medicate the symptoms. However, it is now becoming increasingly evident that the key to our health lies in what we are eating and that the path to better health and longer life lies in eating living foods.

You may have heard the terms "live food", "living food", or "raw food". The question is, do you know what they mean? Eating all raw food is exactly as it sounds – it is eating food that has not been heated or altered in any way. This way of eating is not a diet, not a temporary means of accomplishing a specific goal such as weight loss. This way of eating is a lifestyle and it is a lifestyle that is gaining momentum and scientific support all over the world.

Why living foods? Think about it this way. Why do we eat? If you answered to feed your body, you are right. We eat to nourish the cells in our bodies so that they can perform the functions needed to keep our bodies alive. These cells are living things and we need to feed living things with living food. However, when we cook food, we kill it. The heating process of cooking chemically alters the food and destroys the enzymes needed by our bodies to aid in the digestion of the food. How can our cells live off of this?

When the enzymes in our food are destroyed, our bodies must compensate by using its own enzymes to help in the digestion process, taking up energy and vital resources that are needed elsewhere. The concentration of enzymes in an elderly person’s body is approximately 30% less than that of a young adult. This means, we are depleting our resources. The body has a more difficult time handling the cooked food and the digestion process slows down. What should ideally take 4 hours, can take up to 4 days. When our bodies are working so hard to constantly process and rid itself of the cooked food, it has fewer resources and less energy to focus on ridding the body of other foreign material such as the viruses and bacteria that make us sick.

When we cook food we also kill the vitamins and alter the minerals that our bodies need to function properly. While it is easy to think that you might feel hungry eating only living food, once you begin the cleansing process within your body, it will be better able to absorb the readily available nutrients from the raw food. Also, because living food is so nutritionally dense, we need to eat far less of it to get the same nutritional value that we get from cooked food. Eating living foods leaves a person feeling more satisfied and far more energetic.

No other animal on earth cooks its food. This is really a profound concept. There is no other animal, no other creature on earth that is as ill, out of shape, and overweight as humans are. Even the ones who live in the city environment, breathes the same polluted air as we do, and suffers the stresses created by humans do not suffer ill health the way humans do. Humans tend to want to improve upon nature, but nature was doing a fine job long before humans entered the scene. When eating all living foods, it is like saying, "I trust that nature has provided what my body needs in its entirety." In other words, nature knows what it is doing.

What about cravings? Many people believe we have cravings because there is something in the food our bodies are lacking. While this is true some of the time, much of our cravings for cooked foods comes from the fact that cooked foods are an addiction. Many people are physically and psychologically addicted to it and, as with any other addiction, it is hard to quit. There are many resources available that can help you get through the cravings and withdrawal from cooked food. A primary resource is Victoria Boutenko’s 12 Steps to Raw Foods. And if you think you’ll have to give up chocolate when eating living foods, you will be pleasantly surprised. Raw chocolate is not only delicious, it’s healthy too.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that eating raw food diet, which will detoxify and purify the system, can eradicate many diseases, cure obesity, slow the aging process, and extend the lifespan of humans. Two wonderful resources on the living food diet are David Wolfe’s books The Sunfood Diet Success System and Eating for Beauty. You may be sitting there saying, "But I have eaten cooked food all of my life and I’m perfectly healthy." The question you need to ask yourself is, "What am I comparing my level of health to?" After all, nearly everyone around you eats cooked food too and just because something is the norm, that doesn’t mean it is healthy.
